A new venture for work experience
We are so pleased to be able to share news about a new supported work experience opportunity for RBAir students local to Cambridge.
From this year we have partnered with Castle School, Cambridge, to join up and take on a ‘part share’ in a community shop which is already set up and running for part of the week. The shop, located at 16-18 Arbury Road, Cambridge CB4 2JQ, sells mostly second-hand goods donated by friends, family and members of the public.
On one set day per week (Tuesday) Red Balloon of the Air students will have the opportunity to work alongside staff and volunteers on shop related tasks and activities including window displays, customer service and stock management. We will have exclusive use of the shop for that day which means we are now able to offer students a supported ‘world of work’ or work experience placement, internally run by Red Balloon.
The aim of the shop is to create a meaningful and useful space for students to experience the world of work in a real-life location. We aim to offer a quiet, safe space where students can learn to use their own initiative, gain valuable work skills, build confidence and social skills and to prepare themselves for a suitable pathway after Red Balloon, gaining many transferable skills along the way.
Our opening event
Our Opening event was on the 10th of October and was a great success! We had a great turnout and you can read more about how the day went here.
Weekly opening hours
Tuesdays during term time 10am- 2pm
RBAir will be in the shop weekly during term time on Tuesdays from 10am to 2pm, so you can pay us a visit during these times to support RBAir and our students in their work experience placements.
Or you can pop in on other term-time weekdays between 10am and 2pm when Castle School are running the shop!
