Location: Milton/online

Hours: to be negotiated (approximately 20), with a preference for Mondays and Tuesdays to be worked.

Salary: Point 12 – 14 (£28,381 – £29,615)

Start Date: 4th November or as soon as possible after this date. Induction to take place beforehand.

Summary of Role

Red Balloon of the Air helps young people between the ages of 11 and 19 who have self-excluded from mainstream school for various reasons, including Emotion-Based School Avoidance (EBSA). They often have needs that their previous schools were unable to meet.

As a teacher, the postholder will teach learners in small groups or 1:1, mainly online, while working alongside other staff to establish and maintain a positive working relationship with a core group of learners, their families and other professionals supporting them.

Although most learning is online, teachers are required to attend our centre in Milton for their induction and occasionally during the year for training and relationship-building.

Some key responsibilities of this role include:

  • Planning and delivering subject teaching that is tailored to the learner’s needs
  • Monitoring learners’ progress and providing formal and informal feedback to parents/carers
  • Adhering at all times to Safeguarding policies and protocols, and always striving to act in the best interests of the young person
  • Collaborating with colleagues to identify and develop best practice
  • Supporting colleagues by providing cover for teaching sessions where required

To be considered for this role as a minimum you will need:

  • Degree in Maths or a related subject
  • Qualified Teacher status
