Carrie Herbert MBE (Chair and Founder)Harassment and bullying consultant – Carrie Herbert ConsultancyCarrie trained as a teacher before emigrating to Australia, returned to the UK in the eighties to complete a Master’s Degree at UEA and a PhD at Cambridge. Carrie worked as a consultant in equal opportunities before founding Red Balloon in 1996. She has written a number of books on the subject of bullying and harassment in schools and in the workplace. Carrie Herbert was Master of the WC of Cutlers from 2020-2022. | Nick MundayNick trained as a chartered accountant and worked in that field for six years before starting his own travel business where he worked in a variety of positions including accounts manager and deputy MD. After selling the multinational company, Nick started a second company where he once again played multiple roles including HR, marketing, and managing the IT structure. Nick has also been a trustee and strategic lead for a local food bank charity and is a church committee member. | |
Revd Professor Michael ReissProfessor of Science Education | Liz LaybourneEx- Head Teacher of Burgess Hill GirlsLiz trained as a Teacher of Physical Education and Mathematics and went on to enjoy a fulfilled career in Education and Boarding at Burgess Hill Girls where she progressed to the role of Deputy Head and then Head. Having sat on a variety of Governing boards, been a Mentor to new Headteachers, a GSA committee member and part of a working group to further improve Education degrees, Liz enjoys ensuring young people of today get the best from their education. Liz is a strong advocate of staff and student well-being programmes, excellent Pastoral Care provision and the development of soft skills and networking opportunities alongside building their academic profile. Having spent her working life ensuring the young people in her care are treated as individuals and believe they all have skills and talents to make a difference in the world. Liz has a clear focus of building positive relationships and ensuring students were well prepared for this ever-changing global society. | |
Jenny RaineJenny is currently the Bursar of Corpus Christi College Cambridge. After qualifying as a Chartered Accountant in Yorkshire Jenny moved to Cambridge where she held Executive positions in a number of local NHS Trusts. More recently she was CFO for a national children’s mental health charity. She is a member of the University of Cambridge Joint Wellbeing Committee which focusses on improving the wellbeing of undergraduate and postgraduate students. Jenny has been a Trustee or board member of several local charities or not-for-profit organisations including Arthur Rank Hospice and CHS Group. | Ruth LoshakAfter taking a mathematics degree and studying Russian for interest, Ruth first worked as a computer programmer, then as a technical translator, before becoming a teacher in mainstream. When the government changed focus from creativity in maths to numeracy, she moved on to teacher training. In 1996 she became Coordinator of the first Red Balloon Learner Centre, and ran the Centre in Cambridge for ten years. During that time and in the following twelve years she supported the development of new Centres and contributed to “Red Balloon Philosophy and Practice”. |
