Hours: this position is from three days a week to full time (hours to be negotiated). This is a permanent position. (0.6fte to 1.0fte based on a full time week of 40 hours).

Salary: from £22,575 depending on experience.

Role:

The purpose of this role is to support young people who have suffered bullying or other traumatic experiences within a school community, with a particular focus on IT and PE.

Context
We work with young people who have been severely bullied and/or experience high levels of anxiety about attending school. We provide a safe environment with clear boundaries for behaviour, and an individual full-time academic, pastoral and therapeutic programme. Once students have regained their confidence and are able to cope academically and socially, we support their return to mainstream school or college or into employment. It is important that the jobholder concurs with this aim.

Safeguarding
Safeguarding young people is the responsibility of everyone who works in Red Balloon. The post holder must agree to implement our practice in this area. The person appointed will be subject to an enhanced DBS check.

Principal Accountabilities

1. As a member of the education team:

-deliver tailored teaching activities to students on either a one-to-one basis or in small groups
guide and monitor student progress
-plan and deliver basic skills in ICT lessons to students of different ages and abilities
support students’ independent activity (Own Work)
-lead student activities in locations outside the centre (eg swimming, gym)
organise and prepare resources
-maintain records of lessons, outcomes and progress for each student where required
-advise and consult with colleagues, the Coordinators and others, discussing any concerns that arise and acting on any agreed decisions
-contribute to whole staff assessments of students’ social and emotional progress

2. As a member of staff:

a. abide by and support the philosophy of Red Balloon;

b. co-operate with the other staff in the running of the Centre;

c. respond to any perceived need for in-service training;

d. attend staff meetings and INSET when possible.

To be considered for this role you will need:

● Experience with working with groups of young people 11-18 (essential)

● Knowledge of basic IT skills (essential)

● Interest in sports and physical activities (essential)

● Professional Youth Work Qualification (desirable

● Current, or very recent, experience of working with young people aged 11-18 (essential)

● Experience of working with students with a very wide range of abilities and interests (essential)

● Confidence to build upon students’ interests and ideas within a

negotiated curriculum (essential)

● Good subject knowledge of IT and PE curriculum (essential)

● IT skills for teaching and record keeping (essential)

● Understanding of the impact of emotional well-being upon a

student’s ability to learn and vice versa (essential)

● Interest and abilities to oversee special needs provision across the

school (desirable)
