Salary: from £26,000 FTE Pro-rata (actual £13,244)

Role

We have an exciting new opportunity for an enthusiastic Teacher of Art to deliver and develop our Art offering as we expand our curriculum. Art is a popular lesson and extra-curricular choice for our students who greatly benefit from the creative and therapeutic benefits of these group and 1-1 sessions.

The Teacher in Charge of Art is the curriculum manager who shares, with the Head of Education and Admissions, the responsibility for delivering to the students the curriculum within a designated subject farea, ensuring that each pupil receives positive encouragement to develop their potential to the full according to the stated aims of the provision. The Teacher in Charge will be responsible for developing the quality of teaching in their areas of responsibility. A Teacher in Charge is responsible for resource allocation, be it for individuals or developing groups.

As a teacher, the post holder will teach small groups of students online while working alongside other staff to establish and maintain a positive working relationship with a core group of students, their families, and other professionals supporting them.

Some key responsibilities of this role include:

  • To investigate and develop the pedagogy of online art sessions for our cohort
  • To develop negotiated learning projects in the subject
  • To monitor and evaluate student progress to ensure we can meet external reviews
  • To understand the educational needs of children who may have mental health problems (e.g. anxiety, depression, PTSD), school-related anxieties or refusal, SEN, extremely low academic confidence and self-esteem, and to adjust teaching strategies to meet individual student needs
  • To teach and facilitate one-to-one and small-group negotiated learning sessions for young people in online or face-to-face environments
  • To investigate and support the online delivery of qualifications in art

To be considered for this role as a minimum you will need:

  • A teaching qualification (e.g. QTS, PGCE, and other teaching qualification/certifications)
  • 2 years+ teaching experience in your subject area
  • Experience in teaching students with SEN is desirable
  • Excellent Art and IT skills
  • Outstanding communication skills, written and verbal and online
  • Excellent curriculum knowledge
  • Understanding of adolescent development, trauma, bullying and its effects
