Local Governor (multiple roles)
Red Balloon of the Air
Hours: The time commitment for school governors will vary, though we ask governors to attend five governor meetings per academic year.
Effective Date: September/October 2022
Having recently merged with Red Balloon Educational Trust, Red Balloon of the Air (RBAir), the blended provision of Red Balloon is looking for its first group of local governors to help them make a huge impact on students’ lives across the UK. RBAir has grown from a very small pilot programme to a larger provision with over 60 staff, operating in 14 different Local Authorities, and working with over 100 young people each year, and we are expecting to grow again in the 2022 / 2023 academic year.
Being a governor is a challenging but hugely rewarding role. It will give you the chance to make a real difference to young people, give something back to your local community and use and develop your skills in a board-level environment. You will also be joining the largest volunteer force in the country: there are over a quarter of a million volunteers governing schools in England.
There is no requirement for you to have an understanding of the education system, just the necessary skills, character and time to contribute. There is plenty of training available to help you learn about education. Our Centres benefit from a range of professional knowledge on their local governing board including education, finance, human resources, legal, marketing and public relations, property and estates management, and organisational change. You can find out more about our Centre and the roles via the links below.
As a Red Balloon Educational Trust governor you will be able to:
- Use your own experience of education and life beyond school to inform conversations;
- Develop and utilise your skills in a board-level environment;
- Make a valuable contribution to education and your community;
- Support and challenge the Centre so that it improves for pupils and staff;
- Bring your unique experiences, perspectives and insights into decision-making in the interests of the school community;
We have multiple roles available as this is a new local governing body, you can view full job descriptions below, or make a general application via the link if you feel you could support various roles:
