Location: Reading

Hours: Full-time (40hrs/week) Standard working hours are 8:30am – finish 4:30pm. But this post will require you to be flexible and meet with students/families or attend meetings outside of those hours.

Salary: £24,000 – £28,000 FTE

Role

The purpose of the role is to establish and maintain a positive relationship with a core group of students, their families, and the professionals supporting them. The students are identified as needing one-to-one support after a long period of self-exclusion from education. The work will cover student induction, non-formal education, mentoring, community engagement work and transition support for the next stage of a student’s education. Work will be face-to-face (which will involve travel). You will also take the lead in shaping the Outreach Programme and managing the timetable and work of the Outreach Worker.

As Outreach Manager:

  • To work with Head on developing the outreach and local online provision;
  • To support the Head to ensure that all referrals for students for the Outreach programme
    and online learning (local and Red Balloon – Air) are appropriate;
  • To liaise regularly with RBAir keeping them updated with information about students
    accessing their online learning provision;
  • To arrange and attend meetings with schools, other alternative education providers and
    local authorities to raise awareness of Red Balloon and actively recruit new students who would be suitable for Red Balloon – Reading
  • To research and attend events where we can promote the services of Red Balloon Reading
  • To follow up on new student enquires and ensure relevant referral paperwork is completed

As an Outreach Worker:

  • To offer face-to-face, online or phone support to students and families;
  • To cultivate a mentoring relationship with the young people;
  • To negotiate personal plans with students which will include informal learning through
    projects;
  • To work with students and staff to monitor and measure progress;
  • To organise and facilitate outings and trips;
  • To attend professional meetings regarding the student;
  • To work with other agencies (GPs, CAMHS, CSC, YOTs, SENCOs etc.) in support of students’ needs;
  • To record and provide reports, feedback, and letters of support as required
