Location: Remote working – Cambridgeshire/Essex area

Hours: 20 hours per week (likely to increase to full time 40 hours per week in future)

Salary: £21,930 to £26,010 pro rata

Red Balloon of the Air is an award-winning charity that operates a leading-edge virtual learner centre. We offer academic, wellbeing and community support to transform the lives of students (aged 9-18 years) who want to learn but have had low rates of attendance at school due to high anxiety, severe bullying, trauma or chronic stress.

We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic teacher of Computer Science and Maths to deliver live lessons online, 1:1 and in small groups. This permanent position is perfect for an experienced teacher who is looking for a flexible and rewarding alternative to mainstream education within an exciting and supportive workplace.

You will be working closely with members of the Link Mentor and Therapist team with the aim to provide the best possible experience for our students. As the provision continues to expand there are progression opportunities.

Key responsibilities of the role include:

  • To collaborate in the preparation of schemes of work for GCSE, and other computing courses such as ASDAN or Functional Skills for KS3 and 4 students.
  • To monitor and evaluate student progress to ensure we can meet external scrutiny
  • To support the GCSE exam process in IT
  • To understand the educational needs of children who may have mental health problems (e.g. anxiety, depression, PTSD), school-related anxieties or refusal, SEN, extremely low academic confidence and self-esteem, and to adjust teaching strategies to meet individual student needs
  • To teach and facilitate one-to-one and small-group negotiated learning sessions for young people in online or face-to-face environments

To be considered for this role you will need to have:

  • A teaching qualification (e.g. QTS, PGCE, and other IT based teaching qualification / certification)
  • 2 years+ teaching experience
  • Experience in teaching students with SEN desirable
  • Excellent IT skills
  • Outstanding communication skills, written and verbal and online
  • Excellent curriculum knowledge
  • Understanding of adolescent development, trauma bullying and its effects
