Salary: Circa £21,500 – £25,000 p/a pro rata

An opportunity has arisen for a highly skilled, dedicated KS3 – KS4 teacher to support a small group of our students. If you have a passion for supporting and teaching young people on a one-to-one basis, then this could be the role for you.

Who are Red Balloon of the Air?

Red Balloon of the Air (RBAir) is an independent learning provision who provide online and face-to-face academic and therapeutic programmes for young people aged 10-18 who are out of school because of trauma. Students are encouraged to make decisions and gradually take control of their own learning, thereby building their self-confidence so that they can return to appropriate mainstream education, training, or employment.

The Role

The KS3-4 Teacher and Centre Support role will be Part-time, three days a week fixed term until July 2022, and will be based at our centre in Danbury, Essex. You will be working with students on a one-to-one basis and in small groups (4-5 pupils), and on average will only work with up to 20 students during a term.

The role offers the chance to teach the core curriculum subjects through project-based learning, primarily English and Maths, whilst being supported by specialist staff. The sessions are based on students’ individual negotiated learning plans, these students will be working between KS2 and KS4.

You will be liaising with the education team, wellbeing and mentoring teams, administrative staff, external agencies such as CAMHS, and commissioners to deliver an exceptional educational experience to our students.

The role requires creativity, flexibility, and commitment as RBAir provision develops to meet the needs of more young people, therefore, if you have some outside the box ideas on how to engage young people in learning, we are keen to hear about them!

There will be the opportunity of delivering some remote learning, though access to our Danbury site is vital to the role. We are interested in appointing the right person to complement our staff team and will adapt the role to fit the strengths of the successful candidate.

Your Experience

The successful candidate will:

  • Have a teaching qualification
  • Be educated to degree level or hold a degree level teaching qualification
  • Be an experienced teacher with the ability to teach 1:1 and small groups of students face-to-face.
  • Have the skill and ability to deliver English and Maths up to Functional Skills level online across KS3 – KS4
  • Be confident in working alongside other staff to establish and maintain a positive working relationship with a core group of students, their families, and other professionals supporting them.
  • Have experience in delivering education in a creative and flexible way.
  • Hold a clean driving licence with own transport
    As a member of the Red Balloon Team, you will be compassionate, empathetic and friendly, a self-starter and team player with the ability to be flexible and adaptable. Therefore experience and examples of such skills are vital.
