Red Balloon Cambridge (Norfolk Street)
Location: Norfolk Street, Cambridge
Hours: Part time 12 hours per week over 2 days (6 hours per day to cover morning break and lunchtime), 38 weeks per year.
Salary: £20,184, pro rata
The Cook is in charge of preparing healthy and balanced meals for the group of staff, students and volunteers. This person will be based in the kitchen. They will liaise with the current Cook and also with the Coordinator. They are a participating member of the community, communicating regularly with all staff, students, parents/carers, volunteers and visitors to the Centre.
The role includes
a. prepare healthy, balanced, varied and hearty meals for the staff and students in the centre working to a tight budget and in line with food hygiene procedures;
b. involve students in the preparation of the meals at times;
c. consider people’s dietary sensitivities and requirements;
d. prepare and clear morning drinks and lunch for staff and students;
e. leave the kitchen clean and tidy each day, ensuring appropriate hygiene standards are met;
f. Liaise with the current cook in ordering food and other items;
g. advise and consult with colleagues, the Coordinator and others, discussing any concerns that arise and acting on any agreed decisions;
As a member of staff the position holder will
a. abide by and support the philosophy of Red Balloon;
b. cooperate with the other staff in the running of the Centre;
c. respond to any perceived need for in-service training;
d. attend staff meetings and INSET when possible.
